Re: 1/03/2010 & the PSN
Well I have a question about that - I assume the answer will be "no" but I'll ask anyway...Superstar655 wrote:I couldn't get on, not that is was really a problem, Heavy Rain, doesn't need PSN.
I have Heavy Rain on my fatty - haven't really played that much, but it's one of those stupid ones that won't let you copy the save data (so I can play it on my slim).
Is there any way around this at all? Obviously I could start over, or wait until Sony (presumably) release some sort of fix.... obviously there's no info on if/when this will happen of course.

Yes it does. I thought the same.Superstar655 wrote:I couldn't get on, not that is was really a problem, Heavy Rain, doesn't need PSN.
As soon as I launched HR, it quit me back to the XMB and now my Heavy Rain trophy list has disappeared. Don't do it.

Re: 1/03/2010 & the PSN
It appears to be working again now. Mine was rooted, but everything seems mostly normal again, just had to change the system clock back to being correct.
EDIT: BUT...
I did switch it on and play one game (NBA 2k10) while it was buggered up, and it looks like I've lost all my trophies for it. My save game that I used in that time is still there and working, though I can't be sure whether it'll be the same for all games. Like I said I only played the one.

Nah neither am I. I'm sure it'll frustrate quite a few people though.

Re: 1/03/2010 & the PSN
nah it looks like at 00:00 GMT (or UTC for those who prefer the modern term) it all corrected itself.
Obviously, like any PC all times are derived from GMT, so when you set your region etc it adjusts the displayed time from that.
To clarify in my own mind, the problem was that somehow (with the older hardware) the internal system clock was badly coded, so at midnight on 28/2 it clicked over to 29/2/2010 (internally expecting that to be a valid date i.e. a leap year). However, when the PS3 tried to use that date and connect to the PSN, some sort of "validation" (or whatever) saw this as obviously invalid, and hence we had this problem. 24 hours later, those affected system clocks rolled over to 1/3/10 and suddenly we were looking at a valid date again and the PS3 could connect to the PSN.
Not sure if this is totally accurate, but it's working now. You can connect with no probs and then just set the clock via internet and all is well. Sony haven't released any firmware (yet?) and not sure if it's something that can be corrected as I think we're probably looking at code in the system clock itself, not just the operating system.
As to the lost trophies/sync issue, luckily I read all this (thanks again for your early pick-up Gunn) before trying to connect, so I was able to unplug my Ethernet so I didn't accidentally blotto anything. I seem to be fine. Sorry for those who lost shit.

Re: 1/03/2010 & the PSN
Another update regarding the trophies. Turns out I didn't lose them after all. I've just done another trophy sync, having put the disc of the affected game in and firing it up. The trophies turned up.
Earlier on I did the same sync without having used the game and it didn't pick them up. So I guess it's 100% normal, based on what I've seen anyway.
And yeah topr is dead right, no patch, it just needed to wait for what it thought was the 29th of February to roll past. I'd imagine there will be a patch soon enough to stop if from happening again in coming years.
All is right with the world once again.

Cheers wotta
Spent my time on the PS playing heavenly sword and in the end hopped on wh and created a LAN game whilst listening to music... sad D=
When i put in wh today all my trophies disappeared. Was a bit spooked when i saw all the medal/badge/ rank trophies reappear. Was kind of cool though seeing them again.

Re: 1/03/2010 & the PSN
Sony is fucking weird. I guess they made digital checks and valid dates where trophies, connections, DRM related products expire or should be active until XX/XX/XXXX date.
Awesome, job Sony! Always "gots" some of that there "learnings" to do when it comes to software.

Re: 1/03/2010 & the PSN
I just found out the other day that you can't even set your date to 1999 on the ps3 so i think it was pretty impressive that the system managed to do it by itself. haha
