no. we just have a unit in melbourne.
cracked 1mb downloading torrents multiple times. movies were taking no time at all.
it's an unlimited plan here as well. downloaded 15 movies in like 2hrs total, haha.

is that fiber?
No Idea of the details (Super or someone else maybe?)
But we don't actually have an ISP, we serve as our own Gateway direct to a Telstra connection.
Notice the "ISP field"
United Group Limited is the company I work for, we're not an ISP though.

Re: Speed Tests

Re: Speed Tests
I think I can answer this 1...
So you have a direct connection to the Internet so theoretically you do not have an ISP (but you do use a telstra connection.... I'm pretty sure every1 does?)
The reason your speeds are so high is that you are choosing a server housed fairly locally. If you were to test off a US server i think it will still b fairly high but it still needs to go through the pipe running to US with the rest of us.
In other words your company has a relatively large ammount of bandwith because it is shared internally, and does not go through an ADSL connection. I have done a bit of work for Sydney Uni and thaey get similar speeds.
This is my works

Re: Speed Tests
ok...so i was browsing through the qd forum yesterday and discovered a thread on speed tests. I had a read just out of curiosity to c wat other people get.
It turns out that iinet have a section where you can monitor your speed. For 3 fucking years I have had mine at the adsl setting with a maximum download of 8mb/s. WTF
I realised and changed it last night. My speed nearly doubled and am now sitting oround the 13mb/s and about 0.86 mb/s upload. I had no idea!!!!
Found out my cap has also been upped to 50GB on 50GB off. Don't I feel like an idiot!

Ive been with them for a while. I have no complaints, but I haven't really been with any other ISP's so can't really compare. I do hear that internode and TPG are also good.

Re: Speed Tests
Interesting
I have been fiddling around with the connection speeds of my internet (like Azza said, with iinet you can change settings) and measuring it at speedtest.com and this is what happened:
Standard Speed
DL - 14.3
UL - 0.83
Thrillseeker
DL - 15.87
UL - 0.86
Gamer
DL - 10.94
UL - 1.02
Its worth noting that in the first 2 settings I could only host 12 players in Warhawk, on Gamer I can host 16!

Re: Speed Tests
Probably worth noting that Gamer most likely has a process called interleaving turned off which will lead to a unstable connection on poorer lines
You might want to monitor its uptime closely
